In the so-called ‘Golden Valley’ of the River Frome, after negotiating twisting country lanes, you reach the quaintly named village of France Lynch. Tucked into the hillside, with great views down the hillside, you find our picturesque traditional honey coloured Cotswold stone manor house.
France Lynch has an interesting history. The last part of the name comes from the medieval English word lynchet which was a hillside terrace. ‘France’ probably comes from an old meeting house called the France Chapel, where Huguenot silk weavers, displaced from the Flemish lowlands, used to worship. It’s a step back in time complete with a 300-year old pub called The King’s Head a short stroll away.
for 6-8 guests
We have three guest bedrooms that sleep up to 8 people – and we can always squeeze in a child or two. The property, with its rather lovely stone spiral staircase, beams and lovely stonework is delightful. It’s our entry range property so not as opulent as others, but it has everything you’d want for six nights of pampered rest, recreation, and fine eating and drinking.
All creature comforts
great and small
There are two sitting rooms, a dining room and an open kitchen where you are welcome to chat with Chef as he preps your gourmet food. Depending on the time of day he’ll happily serve you a coffee or something stronger from the fridge. The bedrooms have all been fully refurbished with fine linen and bathrobes on the beds (and chocolates on the pillows!) and elegant modern bathrooms with lots of hot water.
The house has extensive gardens and lawns to the rear and we regularly eat outside. Hot tub aside there is a seating area for evening cocktails and an open fire pit to take the chill off cooler evenings.
Around & about
The Cotswolds is the biggest area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) in England or Wales, a 25 mile by 90 mile stretch of rolling hills that takes in six different English counties. It’s a bit like spending a few days as an extra in the cast of Larkrise to Candleford meets Downton Abbey.
We know and love the area and have made a point of discovering what we feel are all the ‘best bits’. For us that includes museums and castles, towns like Cirencester, Broadway and Burford, local breweries and vineyards, or a cream tea with polo and croquet.
Depending how long you will be staying with us we will be delighted to drive you around the area (super-helpful for the brewery tasting!) and provide a guide to help you make the most of your time. When you book we’ll give you a list of what you can choose to do on the specific days you stay. Alternatively, just stay put at home and we’ll look after you.
